So I have a confession… I’m addicted to coffee and espresso! I know I’m not alone!
It all started out in law school when I was studying for the dreaded bar exam. When you study for the bar exam you literally study 8 hours per day like it’s your job. Insanity right?
So it is no surprise that I found myself living at Starbucks.
Well, 1 coffee turned into 2, which migrated to espresso and pretty soon I found myself downing a 4 shot of espresso (quad) without so much as a jitter. I capped myself at 4. Obviously, if there is no longer an official name for it at Starbucks, you might be in trouble!
In any event, I still love my coffee and drink it in varying amounts depending on the day. Sometimes none, sometimes more.
Yes, the awesome boost from coffee is hard to beat. However, I found that I mostly craved that warm comforting feeling from a nice warm cup-o-joe. So my trick helped me replace that warm and fuzzy feeling with something I enjoyed just as much.
Drumroll please…. my super-duper trick to help me cut back on my coffee:
TRICK: Boil hot water and spruce it up!
(1) Add Milk of Choice
- Regular milk (skim, 2%, whole)
- Almond milk
- Soy milk
- Oat milk
(2) Add “Sweet” Spices
- Ginger Oat milk
(3) Add “Savory” Spices
- Smoked paprika
(4) Add Sweeteners.
- Maple Syrup
- Brown Sugar
(5) Create Savory Broth
- Bullion cube cube or better than bullion (chicken beef or veggie)
- Splash of vinegar
- Hot sauce
- If you are really used to the coffee flavor, you can start out by mixing in some extra hot water with your coffee and increasing the coffee/water ratio over time until you are down to 100% water.
OTHER HANDY USES
- If you need to tide yourself over until your next meal, a warm cup of water spruced up will fill your belly. Often hunger signals can be sign of dehydration so water is a good go-to.
I hope that makes life a little easier for you. Just like anything, it’s another tool for the toolbox. Not a perfect solution but it definitely helps!
