Demerara Syrup

This rich demerara simple syrup is made with demerara sugar, an unrefined sugar with an earthy caramel and molasses flavor. This syrup recipe is perfect for old fashioned cocktails, baking and even savory recipes!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup demerara sugar
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  • In saucepan over medium heat, combine demerara sugar and water.
  • Stir until dissolved (2-3 minutes) and remove from heat.
  • Cool before using or storing.

Notes

Storage: Allow to fully cool. Store in airtight bottle or jar in refrigerator.
Demerara Syrup Substitute:
Simple Syrup: Granulated White Sugar
Brown Sugar Simple Syrup: Light or dark brown sugar.
Honey Simple Syrup: Honey
Flavored Syrup Variations: You can add various additional flavors to the syrup such spices (cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg or vanilla), herbs (rosemary, basil or mint), floral (jasmine or lavender) or citrus (lime, lemon, orange).
Excellent in a variety of cocktails such as a manhattan or old fashioned.
