If you love Tiktok, then you are likely here because of the viral chamoy pickle craze! It is a love hate relationship with these famous chamoy pickle kits with some people loving them and some people who are just not a fan.
It is hard to tell what a chamoy pickle tastes like over the internet but it covers all the flavors and textures from sweet to salty to sour to tart/tangy to spicy to crunchy and basically results in a huge explosion of flavor!
I myself was influenced because I love big flavors but, of course, I wanted to make it myself instead of buying the chamoy pickle kit (which you can absolutely do to make sure you like it!).
So after much research and Tiktok chamoy pickle consumption watching, I did my own thing.
Basically, you can buy your own chamoy pickle kit ingredients and make them for all your besties for a pretty reasonable price compared to the pickle kit which only makes one.
So, without further ado, let me introduce you to the do-it-yourself homemade chamoy pickle kit recipe (and homemade chamoy pickle instructions).
Why this chamoy pickle recipe is the best!
- You can buy all of your own ingredients and make the perfect chamoy pickle for you and all of your friends for a reasonable price!
- There are so many recipe variations that you can customize to your own tastes.
- If you love a flavor explosion, this chamoy pickle is for you. PUCKER UP! Speaking of flavor, you will love this Tamarindo Candy recipe for a mexican candy flavor explosion.
Ingredients
- Pickles: You can buy pre-made chamoy pickles or you can make homemade chamoy pickles using a regular dill pickle (see recipe card for instructions). In my opinion, if you don’t want to spend the money for the actual chamoy pickle, a regular dill pickle gives a great experience when combined with all of the candy, crunchy, sauces, etc. Basically, its still a huge flavor bomb. My honest opinion!
- Chamoy: There are many different brands of chamoy. Some are more spicy and some more sweet. I love this Chamoy.
- Hot Takis: You can buy Takis online or at your local grocery store or gas station.
- Cheetos: You can buy Flamin Hot Cheetos or regular cheetos depending on your spice tolerance. I bought Chester’s Hot Fries from the grocery store because they were cheaper (so I guess I have a PRICE tolerance (vs spice, haha). It was delish, so do as you will. Does not have to be exact.
- Fruit Rolls Ups, Fruit by the Foot and/or Gushers: Any of the above will do. This is a fun sweet component.
- Lucas Swinkles Salsaghetti (Watermelon) or (Mango): You can use either depending on your preference. Even though the watermelon salsaghetti seems to be slightly more popular on Tiktok, I actually found the flavor to be a little bit more floral and off-putting so I would recommend the mango. But that’s just me!
- Tajín Clásico Chile Lime Seasoning: Tajin is life. I love it. I put it on my Mexican Fruit Cup and basically all fruit. Life changing. Fight me.
- Mexican Candy Powder: Lucas Guasano Chamoy Sweet and Sour Chamoy Flavored Powder
- Mexican Liquid Candy: Lucas Gusano Chamoy Liquid Candy
How to make a chamoy pickle
- Cut off top of dill pickle and scoop out the insides.
- Fill pickle with your choice of Takis, Flamin Hot Cheetos, Gushers, Lucas Swinkles Salsaghetti (Watermelon or Mango).
- Wrap pickle in fruit roll up or fruit by the foot.
- Top with your choice of extra chamoy drizzle, Tajín, Lucas Guasano Chamoy Sweet and Sour Chamoy Flavored Powder and/or Lucas Gusano Chamoy Liquid Candy
- Try not to get messy while you enjoy this sweet, salty, tart, sour and spicy flavor explosion!
Homemade Chamoy Pickles:
- 6 whole dill pickles
- 1 cup dill pickle juice from the jar
- ½ cup chamoy sauce
Combine and make sure pickles are fully submerged. Allow to marinate for 3-7 days (the longer time the more the flavor will absorb).
Chamoy Pickle Variations:
- Some recipes use the Lucas Gusano Chamoy Liquid Candy (Tamarind flavor) which comes inside the Lucas Swinkles Salsaghetti package.
- Some recipes use regular dill pickles and skip the homemade chamoy pickle step and just stuff and top with the ingredients listed in the recipe.
- Other pickle variations: pickles soaked in koolaid, cherry pickles and spicy pickles.
What is in the chamoy pickle kit?
Most chamoy pickle kits will include a pre-marinated Chamoy Pickle and a combination of the following:
- Takis and/or Flamin Hot Cheetos
- Fruit Rolls Ups, Fruit by the Foot or Gushers
- Lucas Swinkles Salsaghetti (Watermelon) or (Mango)
- Tajín Clásico Chile Lime Seasoning
- Lucas Guasano Chamoy Sweet and Sour Chamoy Flavored Powder
- Lucas Gusano Chamoy Liquid Candy
The less messy method!
In my quest to make the perfect chamoy pickle, I always love an easy method. Once of my favorites was to use a smaller dill pickle and wrap in a fruit roll up with all the ingredients I love.
For those who really don’t want to get messy (and I don’t blame you!), you can slice up your pickles and put in a bowl with your delicious ingredients and eat with a spoon or fork. Because, this is a no judgment zone and you do you!
Plastic gloves and a bunch of red dye on my hands isn’t really my jam either so I won’t judge you for doing a less messy version. At the end of the day, its really about the unique flavor explosion!
Where to buy chamoy pickle
You can buy the chamoy pickle kit on Amazon as a fully made kit or you can buy the individual ingredients on Amazon to make your own!
Most frequently searched brands for chamoy pickles include Big Tex, Alamo Candy Co, HEB, Walmart, Van Holten and on Tiktok: Bussin Snacks, Mexican Candy Lady and more Tiktok shops are popping up by the day!
