Halloween cakesicle ingredients and equipment
- Cake: You can use boxed cake mix or homemade cake for this recipe. Here are my favorite recipes homemade cake are listed below (see cakesicle flavors).
- Frosting: You can use canned/store-bought frosting or homemade frosting.
- Candy Melts or Chocolate Chips: I recommend using candy melts for this recipe if possible. They tend to melt the most easily, especially for beginning bakers. Alternatively, I like Kroger (Fry’s Food) Private Selection White Chocolate Chips or Ghirardelli. The main ingredient is cocoa butter so they are higher quality and melted really well in the microwave. You can also use the white chocolate chips to make any color with food coloring or food gel.
- Sprinkles or Edible Glitter (Optional): I love these fun Halloween sprinkles. Definitely also check out this edible glitter. Absolutely gorgeous!
- Cakesicle Mold: This Silicone Popsicle Cakesicle Mold Tray is BPA free and come with cakesicle sticks.
- Cake Popsicle Sticks: These cakesicle sticks work well.

FAQ and expert tips
Cake popsicles are made of cake and a small amount of frosting as a binder. They are the coated in chocolate and decorated with chocolate drizzle, sprinkles or edible glitter.
Cakesickles are dipped in melted chocolate. This is generally candy melts or chocolate chips.
Cakesicles are good for up to one week when wrapped and stored in the refrigerator.
Cakesicles last approximately 24-48 hours at room temperature. However, it is recommended that they be stored in the refrigerator.
Your cakesicle may be breaking because you did not add enough chocolate coating or you did not allow sufficient time for the chocolate to harden before adding the cake mixture.
Your cake balls are likely falling apart because you did not enough frosting. Frosting is the binder that holds the cake together.
You can make cakesicles without a mold by hand shaping the cake mix and dipping them freehand in chocolate. However, I do not recommend this method as it is difficult to get a uniform shape.
Before removing cakesicles from molds, you must be sure that the chocolate is fully hardened. Once fully hardened, carefully remove the cakesicles from the molds.
