Do you love a gooey and soft dessert bar? You are in the right place! These matcha brownies are the perfect combination of earthy matcha green tea and delicious white chocolate all packed into a brownie/blondie bar!

And if you love a dessert bar, be sure to check out these Brownie Blondies and Vegan Blondies.

Now, technically, a brownie has milk chocolate (usually cocoa powder or some other variation of dark chocolate), whereas, a blondie is lighter and omits the cocoa powder or dark chocolate.

In this case, since a brownie is often synonymous with the shape of a delicious dessert bar, I have named these matcha brownies (with white chocolate)! You could also called them matcha blondies if you prefer.

    Ingredients

    • Butter: This recipe calls for salted butter. If you only have unsalted butter, add about ¼ teaspoon of salt.
    • Matcha Green Tea Powder: You can purchase matcha green tea online. You can also find it in a specialty Asian grocery store.
    • Sugar: Granulated white sugar.
    • Eggs: Regular or organic eggs.
    • Vanilla Extract: You can use extract or vanilla bean paste.
    • Flour: All purpose white flour.
    • White Chocolate Chips: You can also use white chocolate chunks or break up a white chocolate candy bar.

    • Once all your matcha brownie batter is in the pan, using a spoon or spatula, lightly flatten out your matcha brownie batter so that the surface is level.

Tip to Measure Flour: When you measure your flour, do not scoop it out directly as that can lead to using more flour than is needed.

To correctly measure your flour, give the flour a stir with a fork or a whisk to loosen it. Spoon the flour into cup until it is heaping, then level with the flat side of a knife.

Parchment Paper: Rub a little bit of oil on the bottom of your baking pan and place parchment paper on top.

This will help the parchment paper to stick flat. Use can also use clips to hold sides of parchment paper until you pour batter in to weight down.

Slicing Tips: Once matcha brownies have cooled to room temperature, remove from pan (leave on parchment paper) and wrap them tightly.

Place matcha brownies in the refrigerator or freezer to get cold. This will allow for a cleaner slice.
