How to make a charcuterie board

    Build a Foundation

    • Place any bowls first. Then, place any larger blocks of cheese or large items (salami rose or smoked salmon piece). This sets your foundation. From there, you will want to arrange your items in descending order focusing on next heaviest or large items. The items should get gradually smaller and fill in the gaps.
    • Sample Order: (Start) Bowls, Cheese, Meats, Bunches of Grapes, Crackers, Smaller Dried Fruit and Nuts (Finish)

    Create Movement on the Board

    • You want to utilize movement to create a beautiful board. Experiment with placing your bowls off-center in a variety of places on the board. When placing the foods, you can create a combination of wavy patterns or more uniform placements. Don’t be afraid to play.

    Contrast your Colors

    • When placing your foods, contrast your colors indifferent areas of the board. For example, if you have white crackers, you might place them near green or red grapes instead of near a white cheese. This creates visual excitement.

Vary your Sizes and Cutting Techniques

    • Play around with placing larger items next to smaller items. You can also experiment with different sizes in your slicing. For example, you might cut some slices off a block of cheese and set it next to the remaining block of cheese for a beautiful contrast. You might do the same with a salami stick. You can also experiment with slicing patterns. You can cut things in a rustic way or you can do fun crisscross or dragon patterns. You can arrange meats in roses, slices or swirls.

    Vary Flavors

    • Depending on your dietary preferences, it is always great to have a variety of flavors on the plate. Use different meats and cheese, veggies or fruits, different dips (sweet vs. savory). This variety is part of the fun of these appetizer boards.

What foods pair best with these crackers?

    1. Rye Crispbread crackers: These pair well with smoked or spicy meats, strong cheeses like cheddar, and pickles.
    2. Multigrain Crackers: Multigrain crackers are versatile and go well with a variety of cheeses, including creamy brie and aged cheddar. They also pair nicely with hummus or artichoke dip.
    3. Water Crackers: Water crackers are a classic choice and go with almost any cheese or dip. They’re great for softer cheeses like Camembert and goat cheese.
    4. Pita Chips: Pita chips are perfect for scooping up hummus, tzatziki, or any Mediterranean-style dips.
    5. Triscuits: These sturdy crackers work well with stronger-flavored cheeses and smoked meats. Try them with blue cheese or prosciutto.
    6. Sesame Crackers: Sesame crackers are great with soft cheeses like cream cheese and goat cheese. They also pair nicely with hummus or tapenade.
    7. Crostini: Crostini are excellent for bruschetta or any type of topping with tomatoes, herbs, and olive oil.
    8. Buttery Crackers: These rich crackers are perfect for spreading with pâté or creamy cheese like brie.
    9. Wheat Crackers: Wheat crackers have a slightly nutty flavor that complements mild cheeses like Brie and Gouda.
    10. Flatbread Crackers: These thin and crispy crackers work well with a variety of toppings such as date jam, dips and spreads.
    11. Saltine Crackers: These are a traditional and beloved cracker choice for almost anything.
    12. Vegetable Crackers: These crackers are excellent with soft cheeses and also pair nicely with vegetable-based dips like spinach and artichoke dip.
    13. Wheat Thins: Wheat Thins are versatile and go well with a wide range of cheeses and spreads, from cream cheese to smoked salmon.
    14. Herb Crackers: Herb crackers enhance the flavor of soft cheeses like goat cheese or Camembert. They’re also great for dipping in olive tapenade.
    15. Cheese Crackers: These crackers are excellent for a variety of cheeses and add a fun flair.
    16. Trader Joe’s Sharp Cheddar Sourdough Cheese Sticks: These are delicious on their own! One of my favorites.

    19. Trader Joe’s Pita Bite Crackers: These are great for dipping into hummus, tzatziki, or other Mediterranean-style spreads.
