If you are looking for one of the most delicious and best natural sweeteners, you have come to the right place! Dates are an excellent source of fiber, calcium and iron. Did I mentioned they are delicious!? I love to pair this date paste with my Brazil Nut Butter or Pumpkin Seed Butter on a hearty grain bread.

Dates and date jam are both amazing sugar substitutes in almost any recipe! I use dates in my Healthy Cake Pops.

    Why this recipe works

    • Easy 2 ingredient recipe!
    • This date paste is a healthy all-natural sugar substitute that can be used in many recipes.
    • Date jam is wonderful on breads, muffins and used in baking recipes. I love serving my Date Jam with my homemade Honey Butter and Banana Carrot Muffins for breakfast!

    Ingredients for this recipe

    • Medjool Dates: Medjool dates are known for their rich caramel flavor and natural sweetness. They are my preferred choice of date for this recipe vs the Deglet Noor date variety. You can purchase Medjool dates on Amazon or at many grocery stores. Be sure to remove the pits!
    • Water: I recommend using boiling or hot water for this recipe as it makes its easier to blend the date jam in your blender.

    How to make this recipe

    1. Remove all pits from your medjool dates.
    2. Combine medjool dates and water in food processor or blender.
    3. Blend until smooth jam consistency.
    4. Transfer date jam to air-tight container or glass jar. Store in refrigerator.

    Uses for date jam

Date jam or date paste is one of the best natural sweeteners and can be used as a sugar substitute in many recipes. Generally you can use a 1:1 ratio. I also love smearing a hearty grain bread with some mascarpone cheese and date jam with a sprinkle of pistachios and sea salt. Delish!

    FAQ and expert tips

Can I use normal dates instead of medjool?

This date jam recipe works best with medjool dates because of their soft and super sweet flavor. However, you can also use other date varieties.

Can I use date jam in place of sugar?

Absolutely! The amount you use will depend on your baking application but definitely give it a go. It will provide a richer caramel flavor and take your baked goods to the next level!

      Thank you for sharing this!
I top whole wheat bread with almond butter and then with your date paste for a super-quick and delicious breakfast.
Brew up some green or herbal tea and you have a complete meal.
