What are ingredients in candied walnuts, candied pecans, spicy candied walnuts, maple candied walnuts and spiced nuts?
Your basic candied walnut recipe has the following ingredients:
- Raw walnuts (halves and pieces or whole)
- Granulated white sugar
- Butter
You can mix it up with the following variations:
- Brown sugar candied walnuts (use brown sugar).
- Maple candied walnuts (using maple syrup).
- Granulated stevia or monk fruit (gluten free, low-carb and paleo!)
- Coconut sugar.
Note: I have not tried this recipe with alternative sweeteners so you will want to research ratios.
Fun Seasonings: Cinnamon, chai spice or pumpkin pie spice (nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon) can be used to make spiced nuts or you can even add cayenne powder to make spicy candied walnuts. You can even add a splash of vanilla extract for some extra vanilla depth.
How to make candied pecans?
You can use this same recipe to make candied pecans! You heard that right – this is a 2 for 1 recipe. Feel free to switch it up and use most any nut of your choosing. For example, almonds, hazelnuts, Brazil nuts or even pistachios.
Are candied walnuts gluten free?
Plain, unprocessed nuts are generally gluten-free. However, you must be careful as many nuts can be processed in facilities that have exposure to other gluten containing products which could cause cross contamination.
The same goes for sugar and butter. While generally both sugar and butter are gluten free, if you have celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity, you must always be very careful of cross contamination and pick you products wisely.
While I myself do not have a gluten sensitivity (ie: I cannot personal vouch), this brand of walnuts on Amazon specifically indicates they are “Batch Tested and Verified Gluten-Free.” However, it is always best to double check your packaging to assure the company has not changed their process.
Can candied walnuts be frozen?
Yes, candied walnuts, candied pecans and most candied nuts freeze extremely well. Generally, they are best when stored in an airtight container or freezer bag.

This has got to be my favorite glazed walnuts recipe! So easy and so good! I had it marked as my favorite and somehow all my favorites got deleted. There are SO many glazed walnut recipes on line but yours is just a tiny bit different, I finally found it! I have marked it again but just in case, I wrote it out too! Thank you!
