How to get hash browns crispy
Getting crispy hash browns requires a few tips of the trade to get that coveted crunch. Sorry, no one wants a soggy potato.
Pat those potatoes down to squeeze out excess moisture! Moisture is the enemy of crispiness for Blackstone hash browns. I recommend using a clean kitchen towel or cheesecloth to squeeze out as much moisture as possible.
Use medium-high heat and don’t skimp on the oil. You want to make sure your Blackstone griddle flat top is nice and hot before you add your shredded hash browns. Be sure you use an ample amount of oil so the hash browns don’t stick and develop the perfect crispy exterior and crunch!
Don’t overcrowd your potatoes. Everyone needs a little breathing room! If packed too tight, the Blackstone hash browns will steam rather than crisp.
I know you are going to be excited to shovel these spuds into your mouth but resist the temptation to flip too soon! You want to let your hash browns cook sufficiently undisturbed before flipping. If you flip them too early they will fall apart and you wont have that nice crust.
FAQ and expert tips
Mushy hash browns can be a result of a few mistakes including too much moisture in the potatoes (pat dry with paper towel or cheese cloth before cooking), not using enough oil, putting potatoes on griddle when it is not hot enough and flipping too soon.
You can use raw or cooked potatoes for hash browns but typically raw potatoes will give you the best crispy crunch.
When it comes to hash brown seasoning, the sky is the limit! Common seasonings include salt, pepper, onion powder, paprika, garlic powder or Italian seasoning.
